It was the typical industry versus community battle. The local tree hugging hippies took up the battle with picketing and protests. To prove his point that the waste from the plant was "clean" the CEO of Plastiops took it into his own hands by taking a dip in the formerly frequented fishing hole that was now host to the waste products.
Upon entering the fishing hole, the executive encountered a lounge of indigenous lizards with unusual coloring. These usually docile and harmless lizards appeared to be agitated and aggressive. Before he could safely return to land, the lizards surrounded and attacked him. The spectators, unable to assist were horrified by the event before them. When the onslaught finally abated it was apparent that there was little that could be done to help the battered victim. He was taken to the hospital where it was believed he would not survive the night.
In the morning, the new shift discovered the bed was empty. In the soft earth outside the window were very large, reptilian footprints that led to the fishing hole.
Sightings of the mutation of man into reptile have been reported by the locals periodically. However, attempts to locate the beast have proven unsuccessful. Years later, the only outward sign of Plastiops' acquiesce is a sign that reads "No Fishing." Nonetheless, legends of the mutation still persist.
